An atraumatic mosquito forceps 5" SRT (straight) is a small, precision surgical instrument primarily used for delicate tasks that require a secure, non-crushing grip. The term "atraumatic" means it's designed to minimize tissue damage, "mosquito" indicates its small size for fine procedures, and "SRT" stands for "straight".

Hemostasis: The main function is to clamp small blood vessels to control bleeding during surgery. The ratcheted, self-locking mechanism allows a surgeon to maintain consistent pressure without continuous hand force.

Delicate tissue manipulation: The fine, serrated tips provide a secure grip for holding and moving fragile tissues during surgical procedures.

Suturing: The forceps can be used to hold fine sutures and assist in precise stitching.

Access in narrow spaces: The compact 5-inch length and slender jaws allow for excellent maneuverability and reach into confined or superficial surgical fields.

Foreign body removal: They can be used to extract small objects or debris from a wound.

  • Additional Information

Achieving hemostasis: The main purpose of these instruments is to temporarily clamp small blood vessels and prevent bleeding. The fine, tapered jaws and locking ratchet mechanism allow for precise and secure clamping.

Delicate tissue manipulation: The slender, fine tips enable surgeons to grasp and manipulate delicate tissues, such as during dissection, without causing unnecessary damage.

Suture handling: They are also used for holding small, fine sutures during stitching.

Fine, serrated jaws: The serrations on the inside of the jaws ensure a secure, slip-resistant grip on tissues and vessels. The "atraumatic" variety, such as the DeBakey-Mosquito type, has very fine, tooth-like serrations to further minimize damage.

Tapered, straight, or curved tips: The tapered design allows for easy access to narrow, deep surgical sites. Different tip configurations, including straight and curved, are available depending on the specific surgical needs.

Ratchet lock: The locking mechanism holds the jaws in place once they have been clamped, freeing the surgeon's hands and maintaining constant pressure.
