It is primarily used for emergency vascular access in trauma, hypovolemic shock, or when peripheral cannulation is impossible, such as in children or drug-abusers.

Emergency Vascular Access:
Provides rapid, direct access to veins (e.g., saphenous vein at the ankle, cephalic vein) when percutaneous, ultrasound-guided, or intraosseous methods fail.
Fluid & Drug Administration:
Allows for large-bore access in critically ill or traumatized patients requiring rapid volume resuscitation or emergency medication.
Pediatric and Neonatal Care:
Frequently used in infants and children where finding suitable peripheral veins is difficult.
